Reiki (pronounced “rei-key”) is a form of hands-on energy healing. It is a deeply relaxing experience that eases pain, tension, and stress and balances the energy centers (chakras) of the body. The result is an overall sense of well-being and peace.

“Rei” is defined as universal consciousness and “Ki” is defined as the the life-force energy that pervades the entire universe and known in yoga as Prana. Therefore, Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is Universal Life Force Energy.

Just as the air around us remains invisible to the human eye, there is a life-force energy that is in and around us at all times.  All living things, from trees, plants, stars, and flowers to animals and humans have Ki both within and around them. This energy, the energy of ‘life’ plays a vital part in well-being.

Reiki involves the use of simple techniques, which enable us to draw in this abundant source of life force energy in an efficient and focused way, after which it flows throughout our bodies, helping us to relax and heal on all levels.

The human body, more than just a collection of functioning parts, is a flowing energy field, continually reorganizing and restructuring itself. All conditions of physical disease are rooted in this energy system. Reiki, an ancient art of touch therapy, provides a means to recharge, realign, and rebalance our energy field to create the conditions needed for an integrated functioning of the body’s healing systems.

The natural healing practice of Reiki is a wonderful compliment to allopathic medical care. It speeds the healing of injuries, gently realigns and detoxifies the body, and aids in the recovery from emotional trauma. Reiki healing can provide long-term relief because it heals at the source of illness. It works naturally with your body to repair itself on many different levels – the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Through the use of gentle touch and deep relaxation, a Reiki treatment will allow you to tap into an unlimited supply of “life force energy” to improve cellular health and enhance the quality of your life. It is a ‘hand’s on’ or ‘hands above’ the body technique that promotes energetic flow and alignment. Recipients of Reiki will also enjoy many beneficial effects such as feelings of peace, rejuvenation, security and well-being from the inside out.

A Reiki session is usually carried out in a peaceful and comfortable environment.  The recipient is usually lying down or sitting in a comfortable position.  There is no need to remove any clothes apart from shoes (for comfort).

As a complementary therapy, Reiki works very well alongside orthodox healthcare and natural remedies. Reiki is currently being used throughout the country in GP surgeries, hospitals, hospices, and cancer support groups, in the care of children, the elderly as well as in private practice.

Please note, Reiki does not take the place of conventional medicine and one should always consult a GP for problems of urgent concern or any acute or infectious conditions.
