Rehabilitation

Self-care and restorative rehabilitation is at the core of this Yoga Therapy program.

People with minor to serious injuries from car accidents, playing sports or just daily wear and tear or those facing emotional distress, depression or anxiety can benefit from the specialized restorative techniques of Yoga Therapy.

Yoga therapy is the adaptation of yoga practices for people with health challenges. Focus is placed on relaxation of the mind and body, subtle movement, deeply restful and supported yoga poses, natural breath- cycles and body awareness.

Participants will learn self-care techniques and how to get into and out of the yoga postures safely and how to check in with personal comfort and how to adjust themselves to support and accommodate their individual needs, giving them tools toward progress and recovery.

Our yoga therapists prescribe specific regimens of postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques to suit individual needs.

A complete history is taken from the client and, based on the medical diagnosis and what is currently going on, a treatment plan is developed and tailored to address symptoms. The yoga practices can aid in helping to reduce pain, anxiety, depression and stress, while increasing circulation, relaxation and a sense of well being.

Yoga Therapy calms the body and cools the central nervous system so that the natural “relaxation response” can be found. The “relaxation response” in turn supports the immune system, and the individual can be invited to come back into balance and health by simple mindfulness meditation, gentle yoga movement and deep resting. Small classes and private sessions can be held in medical clinics and rehabilitation centers as well as at home.

Research shows that yoga therapy practice leads to significant improvements in pain, functioning, depression and anxiety.
