What Is Chair Yoga?
Chair Yoga has become quite popular with Private In-home sessions as well as residents living in Retirement Homes.
Along with the physical benefits of practicing Chair Yoga, students have reported a more restful sleep, feeling less anxious and lonely, as well as greater confidence in their abilities.
Chair Yoga is an endlessly adaptable form of exercise that helps improve the quality of life for those with limited mobility, depression, and chronic pain or disease.
It consists of 30 minutes of modified yoga postures done while sitting in a chair. The gentle movements help improve the function, mobility, and range of motion of the spine and other joints in the body.
Some of the exercises stretch and release tension in tight areas such as the shoulders, neck, sides of the chest, hips, and lower back. Other exercises work to gently strengthen the shoulders, upper back, thighs, and abdominal muscles.
Throughout the class, students are asked to become aware of their breath. Many of the movements are done in sync with the breath. When the breath is relaxed and gently lengthened the body feels less stress and tension.
